Manifesto
What is it that IRGO does? What is its purpose? In the comments below, please add your thoughts (keywords, statements, propositions) as to what IRGO should be -- these will then be collated into a statement to be discussed by members.
~
Statements have been collected. Time to choose (or suggest an alternative to be added to this list). This statement will be circulated through academia, media, and industry, so it needs to be generally understandable and reflective of the scope of research of this group. Pick, or I'll pick for you >:) Have your say in the comment thread at the bottom of this page.
OPTION ONE
IRGO is interested in the internet and related areas, not only as technologies but also as social, economic, and political constructs. As such, IRGO is an multidisciplinary group, and one that fosters and facilitates cross-disciplinary inquiry into these issues. This multidisciplinary nature emphasizes both the technological and the human/social issues and questions without privileging one approach over others. As a network of active researchers, IRGO is also interested in promoting and developing research, scholarship and understanding in and across these areas.
OPTION TWO
The Internet Research Group is actively concerned with the confluence of Internet Science and society.
Science is a self-corrective cognitive activity calculated to produce propositional knowledge enjoying maximum domain variant reliability. Various domains are analytical (what it is, its make-up), synthetic (what if …) and normative (what should be).
OPTION THREE
"IRGO. Better Internet"
OPTION FOUR
IRGO: Internet research at Otago that reaches across the world, intellectual lights proceeding. Seeking knowledge and understanding of the Internet from a multiplicity of perspectives, on a multitude of levels, and within multiple domains – from wait is, through to what could or should, to the what ifs and wider speculations that spark further innovations.

I can live with or without it, but I guess, that others will read it in the same way as I did (e.g. the guys from NZTE or FRST at the Digital Summit) and misinterpret it. Don't want to be a bean counter, so leave it the way it is.

"
" --"i/Internet" you are a born leader - a diplomat :-) -- keep going, my ego could use the feeding *g* --Actually I liked your first try better than this one. -- This one is far more speculative and open (and, perhaps, meaningless) If other people want to have a go, we can line them all up and vote - how very democratic (or autocratic if I'm the only one involved!)
