WETPAINT HELPWelcome to the Internet Research Group Otago (IRGO) at Wetpaint. This site is the central hub for general discussion and information dissemination for everyone at the University of Otago and affiliated institutions involved in internet research.
This FAQ/helpfile lists some of the issues and questions specific to using IRGO. For more general help, please see the general Wetpaint helpsite (
http://internetresearchgroup.wetpaint.com/help) or ask the site moderators (Erika, Russell or Andrew) for help.
Suggestions and corrections to this document are welcome.
What is Wetpaint and do I need to sign in?Wetpaint is a wiki-based social networking site. It is run by a third party not affiliated with the University.
To use Wetpaint, you need to sign in. If you have an OpenID you can use that to create your Wetpaint account. You can add as much or as little information to your account as you like – including a small picture to serve as your avatar.
The IRGO Wetpaint is currently open to be viewed by the public. If you don’t want the world to know, don’t post it.
What’s the difference between a user, a registered user, a writer, and an administrator?Different levels of use can access different features. We recommend that all IRGO members log in as ‘writers,’ and all email invitations to the site will be set to that level. If you see a button in the top-right saying ‘apply to be a writer,’ then something has gone wrong. Apply, and we’ll rectify that oversight ASAP. Writers have the ability to start new comment threads, and to create and edit pages, which is important to encourage continued participation.
There are three moderators on the site – Erika Pearson (MFCO) [username: erikap], Russell Butson (HEDC) [username: russellbutson], and Andrew Long (IS) [username: AndrewLong]. If there are any problems with the site, including spamming, please let the moderators know immediately, and we will attend to the problem.
Who is in the group?Anyone involved in any aspect of internet research at either Otago University, or one of its affiliates (including the Upstart Business Incubator) are welcome to join. We strongly encourage you to add your name and some information about your work to the members list (in the LIST group in the left hand navigation bar – you may have to scroll down to see it).
You are welcome to invite your colleagues and students to join us. The more the merrier!
Can I edit pages? Can I start a comments thread?Yes, and you are encouraged to do so. The IRGO Wetpaint has been organized into three sections – Announcements, Discussions, Lists. You are especially encouraged to edit pages in the Announcements and Lists sections, including information about upcoming conferences, news of your latest (no-doubt brilliant) publications, or even just information about what is happening in your school or division. You can also comment on these pages using the comment function at the bottom of each page. Please remember to tag pages, and put your name to any changes you make.
Discussions, as the name implies, are where comments are king -- feel free to start a thread, throw out an idea, or put up a proposition to be discussed.
We recommend using the tags and the search box (top left) to help you find discussions you might be interested in joining, or alternatively, browse the various sections of the site.
What can we discuss?Anything relating to internet research, teaching or practice. There are a number of general discussion areas to start things off, but please do not feel constrained by those groups alone.
Just remember that this site is currently open to be viewed by non-members.
